Meet Our Leadership
Carl Johnson
Founder & CEO
Carl Johnson is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Protection & Investigations. He currently serves as a Sergeant with the Chicago Police Department, where he has dedicated over a decade to serving the citizens of Chicago. Prior to his law enforcement career, Carl worked in security at the Field Museum in Chicago, where he was a member of the executive protection team. Notably, he collaborated with the Secret Service to provide protection for White House personnel and other dignitaries during events hosted at the museum. This role enabled Carl to engage with visitors from around the globe, fostering valuable cultural awareness.
Carl's extensive background in law enforcement and security has instilled in him the importance of professionalism and respect for all individuals. He possesses a comprehensive understanding of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies, emphasizing communication over physical force to restore order. As a USCCA (United States Concealed Carry Association) Certified Instructor, he is qualified to teach Use of Force, De-escalation, Firearms Safety, and related topics. He regards ongoing training as essential to success and ensures that all personnel associated with Cornerstone Protection & Investigations adhere to rigorous training standards.
Additionally, Carl holds a Master’s Degree in Children’s Law from Loyola University, equipping him with specialized expertise in addressing issues and disturbances involving juveniles.
Carl is an active member of ASIS (American Society for Industrial Security) International and an active member of ISPA (Illinois Security Professionals Association).

Ayité (AJ) Ajavon
Chief Compliance Officer
Ayité (AJ) Ajavon offers over 20 years of expertise spanning security, hospitality, and technology industries.
Starting as a Special Response Unit Officer, he collaborated with the Chicago Police Department, including a key role as a Riot Response Unit Officer during the 2012 NATO Summit, safeguarding clients' financial institutions under high-pressure conditions.
In hospitality, AJ held leadership positions such as Director of Security and Audit Manager at the Courtyard by Marriott, driving operational excellence, security innovation, and financial performance while enhancing guest and employee satisfaction.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University, complemented by a minor in French, and holds certifications in Executive Protection, Armed/Unarmed Security Training, and Firearms & Legal Use of Force instruction.
Currently, AJ serves as Chief Compliance Officer at Cornerstone Protection & Investigations, implementing regulatory adherence programs and mitigating organizational risks. He also works as a Solutions Consultant for a Chicago-based software firm, designing impactful product solutions and optimizing client operations.
His commitment to adaptability, strategic leadership, and meaningful contributions defines his career across dynamic and multifaceted industries.
